Renowned designer Katsumi Tamura, known for his unique three-dimensional calendars, has once again pushed the boundaries of design with his latest creation, the Bike Calendar. This bicycle-shaped paper craft calendar is not just a functional tool but also a piece of room decor, transcending borders, ages, and genders with its universal appeal.
The Bike Calendar stands out due to its unique design properties. It displays two months at a time on its front and rear wheels. At the end of each month, the user flips the month over and places it behind the others on the wheel. The wheels, secured by brass screws, can turn, adding an element of interactivity to the design. This innovative approach to calendar design embodies Tamura's philosophy of "Life with Design," which emphasizes the transformative power of quality designs on space and the user's mindset.
The Bike Calendar is a testament to Japan's high-level printing and manufacturing technologies. Tamura's team has produced an original pure white cardboard and minimized parts fasten points for design excellence. The tire sheet measures 90mm (H) x 100mm (W), while the other parts sheet measures 100mm (H) x 180mm (W).
Launched in July 2014, the Bike Calendar has since garnered significant recognition. It was awarded the Golden A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2015. This prestigious award is granted to creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, Katsumi Tamura's Bike Calendar is more than just a way to keep track of dates. It is a design marvel that combines practicality with aesthetics, transforming a simple calendar into a piece of interactive art. It is a testament to Tamura's innovative design approach and the transformative power of design in everyday life.
